Lynne Rae Mercer was born in New Westminster, BC, Canada in 1950. During her formative years, Lynne and her family had the privilege of experiencing much of what nature's bounty had produced in Western Canada, from the beautiful rugged coastline where Canada meets the Pacific Ocean, to the wondrous Coast Mountains and the majesty of the Rocky Mountains.
It was during this time that Lynne Rae developed a passion for photographing the wildlife that abounds in this habitat. Lynne Rae (who is named after her father Ray Mercer) didn't start to express her art through painting until she and her father collaborated on a project together. She then directed her time to the care of her family, her husband Michael and her two children Carolyn and Curtis. Lynne's husband Michael Knoblauch (who is a gifted artist in his own right) sculpts and carves the tree root bases which cradle and complete the naturalistic features of Lynne's work. Lynne Rae signs all of her paintings under her maiden name of Mercer to honour her father who encouraged her talents, and who unfortunately passed away before seeing any of Lynne's wildlife art.
With her children now grown and having left the nest, Lynne now has the time to explore and express her love of nature through her wildlife paintings. Lynne Rae's art can be found gracing private collections in the United States as well as Canada. It is with the encouragement of private collectors and friends alike that Lynne Rae continues to develop her art through a number of styles and subjects. Her work on slate is truly a unique medium in the genre of wildlife art, the stone proving to be equalling challenging and rewarding. Lynne Rae continues to work towards becoming one of BC's most prominent wildlife artists through her hard work and dedication.
